After 43 amazing years of providing epic equine experiences for our horse campers, it is with sadness we write that that the Horsemanship Program at SBC has come to an end. This Board decision was not made lightly, and we want to share with you the key reasons behind it.
Over time, we’ve encountered several challenges, including:
- Staffing Issues: To give the time and attention needed, the horse program required a dedicated, year-round team. This was something SBC had not been able to provide, and the work was carried out primarily by hard-working volunteers.
- Rising Costs: The expenses related to purchasing and caring for the animals, including feeding and veterinary care, and horse riding-related insurance for the camp, have continued to grow significantly.
- Program Focus: The core mission of SBC has always been to provide high-quality, impactful experiences for kids through our summer camps. While the horse program has been a cherished part of our offerings, we believe we are better positioned to create meaningful, enriching experiences in our traditional kids’ camps, where we excel.
We understand that this news will be disappointing to many, and we share in that disappointment. However, we are excited to continue providing top-tier camp experiences for all our campers. Moving forward, we will be focusing on enhancing our existing camp programs, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to participate in activities that foster fun, friendship, and personal growth.
We are incredibly grateful to all the staff, campers, and families who have supported the horse program over the years. Your love for the program has helped make it a special part of SBC’s history. We remain committed to offering exceptional experiences that help children know Jesus deeper, having a blast while doing so!
Thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Warm regards,
The SBC Camp Board of Directors
